that's a wrap!

I’m happy to report that I made it thru 20 weeks of ironman training without a scratch. Oh yeah, it was sketchy early on with the high hammy/glute injury but with some patience and ART, that resolved nicely and I even think my running is slightly improved over last year at this time. I’ll take that!

I just remembered one tiny incident that happened about 6 weeks ago that I only told 2 others about and it involves a roach. We live on conservation and we have our share of creepy crawlies out there, so when we get a lot of rain, it tends to bring a few in, especially into the garage, which is no big deal as long as they don’t find their way into the house. However, every now and then, one will. This was a typical early morning wake up for me and I was in the middle of peeing when I saw IT …the roach in the hallway! I finished peeing and then I slowly took off my flip flop. I moved in a crouched position as slow as possible so as not to startle this icky bug and took my first swipe and missed. He (all roaches are he’s) took off and I took my next swipe and that’s when I felt the intense, painful stretch in that same area where the injury was. I saw stars and the roach got away! My next thought was, if I can’t run now, how do I explain this ridiculousness and that it was all because of a stupid roach? “Hey KC, why are you running so slow and hobbled”? My answer, “I got my ass kicked by a roach!” I’m sure it happens to people every day, right?

the hay is in the barn, so this past weekend, i wrapped it all up and all the training that could be done, has been DONE! Here is what I have done the last 20 weeks, from june 14 thru october 23rd:

Swam – 104,172 meters or 64.73 miles
Biked – 4,519.20 miles
Ran – 470.72 miles

WHEW!! And you know what? I loved every second of it! some of my non-athletic friends find it hard to believe that I truly love all of the training that I do. yes, even the waking up at 3:30am, going to bed at 9pm, not eating junk or drinking alcohol, is a-okay with me.  nothing makes me more happy or feel more alive than when I’m out there running, biking or swimming. I wouldn’t trade my life, as I live it now, for anything in the world. Amen.
KC bib#399 Ironman Florida here I come!

Much love and peace out!

  4. I am in complete agreement with Jeff on this. Non-Athlete friends? How does that happen? HA!

Actually today I had lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. Told I don't drink anymore (he was there at the last stupor that sent me on the straight and narrow) and I don't eat meat anymore.

Mid-way through lunch he asked if I wanted some chicken? WTF? Uhhhh....chicken is meat dude.

Anyway, this part I loved about the post:

Yup, go to bed early, wake up early, eat right don't drink and live forever.....sign me up.

This part I loved 2nd most. Bib #399.

I am a big fan of anything divisible by 3. I wore #846 at Austin which is divisible by 3. 399 is easily divisible by 3 and that just means you are going to rock that course.

    Can't wait to track.....

Send me address for fig bars to be sent your way.

  9. Amazing training! I look at the numbers you post on daily mike and am regularly in awe. Best of luck to you!!

And that roach story...hilarious. While I'm glad you weren't hurt, the thought of badass KC explaining her bug-killing injury is pretty funny.

  12. You are ready - just don't hammer the bike too much - and save it for the run!! fyi - my wife had some roach problems as well when I was out of town. She slipped on the floor and strained her knee after spraying bug spray on him. At least he died and I got to pick him up when I got home!

  13. BOOYAH!!!!!

So what you are saying is that I should NOT wear my Roach Costume to cheer you on ???? crap. Back to the drawing board!!!

  14. Thanks you all! The excitement is thru the roof.
Jeff & Jason - my non-athletic friends (what's left of them), keep me somewhat balanced.
Steve - I'm EMBRACING the taper!!! You are a good husband for picking up the dead roach.
Matty O - if you wear a roach costume, I will stop, in the middle of the race, take my running shoe off, and come after you! And this time, I won't miss!

  15. What are non athlete friends????

Enjoy your reward for all your hard work

  16. You are going to KILL IM FL! Thank goodness that roach was no match for you. Can you imagine being taken out of IM one week before the race because of a roach incident? :)

  17. Just remember to enjoy the race.
After all the SA training, you are going to love the relative flats of the bike course.

  18. The conservation explains your endless encounters with animals! All roaches need to die if you ask me.. I hate those things. I know some people who have had their tail kicked by a bad “roach” but it’s the kind with no legs.

    Non-athletic friends are so strange…

    You got this! Rock IMFL!

  19. I just checked my logs and I have just under 5000 miles on the bike FOR THE YEAR. And you have 4500 since June?!?!? Freaking crazy! You totally got this!

What do you think of the Williams wheels?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can't wait to cheer you on!!

Yeah, except for the blog world, all of my friends are non-athlete friends...and they think I am nuts. And don't understand why I drink water at the bar or why I leave by 9pm...when I actually show up. ha ha

But I feel so much better this way. SO I get it! Anyway, you are a rockstar!
