i’m running away…that’s my little secret. i’m always running away. from what? i don’t know. work? the rat race? just the everyday hustle and bustle? stupid people? unsolicited drama? silly rules? the list goes on. but, i’m also always running towards a goal, a dream, something that maybe at one time was unimaginable to me. my favorite way to “escape” if you will is to head out for a run on a trail. i have never felt more at peace than when i’m running alone, down single track or a wide open fire road. there’s just something about it that i can’t put into words so i took a few pics along the way this morning. the above pic is me “running away” towards another trail.
ahhh, the sun! it was 36 degrees here this AM. i was happy to have the warmth of the sun just in time for my run.
please take a moment to watch the trailer below from the documentary Bicycle Dreams. this documentary chronicles one of the most grueling endurance races in the world, the Race Across America, which by the way, i have no desire to do…yet. as you will see and hear in the trailer below, the narrator quotes a comment from Lance Armstrong, where he states, “Endurance Athletes are running away from something inside of themselves, and that is one of the reasons they do what they do”.
is that true? i say, yes it is. what do you think my blog friends??
take a look and listen and see what you think…
take a look and listen and see what you think…
much love and peace out!
agree 100% always running away. For me, its life. Running is my only ME time and I have always enjoyed it thoroughly :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully no pain for me this weekend and I can get back on my training plan!
First off, that trailer is awesome !! Leaves me in awe and yet super curious to haw far I can go.
ReplyDeleteThen your brick was killer .Great job. And lastly your pictures are quite serene (spell check pls?) your outlook and passion is very uplifting, not that I'm feeling down.It just makes me wish I could go train right now.
I am totally running away from something I just don't know what i am running away from or where I intend to go!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Nothing like the peace of a run away from everything and everyone. I used to feel like I needed someone to run with, but the more I do it, the more I enjoy just being with me.
ReplyDeleteI kinda disagree. I am not running away something (seems negative)....I am running TOWARDS something (more positive)....I am running towards a better me, on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteAgree! Agree! Agree! Running is my nirvana. I prefer to do it alone and almost always do. It soothes my soul and makes me forget about everything else... if only for a little while. You should totally get a pup to run with! I am not fast enough for my dog to even break into a run (he's a Smooth Collie). All he has to do is a fast walk! When we do run together he will look at me with those gorgeous brown eyes as if to say, "Ma! Can't we go little faster? Please?" If he only knew! LOL!
ReplyDeleteReally great post! I don't think I really thought of it that way before, but running/biking does take me away from things I don't feel like dealing with and helps me to focus on bigger goals that mean more to me. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI know the one guy commenting. His name is Tom Rodgers and I did a whole post on him on May 1 2009. You should go back and read it. I knew him when he was a 50 pounds overweight computer geek.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I am usually running away from/escaping the stress of work. Nothing like a long run or ride to clear the head.
ReplyDeletelove the pics! so beautiful where you live! training is definitely my escape too. i think that's why i'm struggling right now without it. hope all is well! have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!
ReplyDeleteI think a local bloggers (Irondiva) husband did the race across america
Agree and disagree at the same time. You know we might be running away from things like complacency, being ordinary, and doing the status quo but is that really running away? I think it is more choosing to do something that others would run from.
ReplyDeleteSo if that is the case we are really running towards our goals of not being complacent or ordinary, right?
Gotta disagree with Lance some on this - even though we might be saying the same thing.
Love the pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yep, BDD is right. I just posted this same comment on Bob's blog, but my husband has raced RAAM with Team Type 1 twice - in 2009 and this past June. Their team, made up of 8 type 1 diabetics has won the race 5 times and currently has the world record for the fasted time and the fastest speed across the country (5 days, 9 hours and 5 minutes). I've been at the finish the last two years and it's AMAZING! There's nothing that can be said about the athletes besides the fact that they are superhuman. The individuals that do the race an inspiration to everyone. And to watch the 2 man, 4 man and 8 man teams is equally insipiring. Everyone has a story, each story better than the last. If you ever have a chance to go to Annapolis and just experience the finish, it's so worth every minute!
I feel the same way about running trails!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Matty-O.
ReplyDeletescary huh?! ;) naaaa.
life can be hard. running makes it easier for me. :)
Very cool pictures of your nirvana, thanks for showing them. Running just makes things better in life, it's really as simple as that!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!!
I am running away from my past. Running away from my demons. Running toward something good. I just hope I get there soon.
ReplyDeleteAnd a great running dog is a pit bull. High energy, and fast.
Wow...that trailer is crazy! I don't know how they do that! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand that quote, "endurance athletes are running away from something inside of themselves." I feel like that sometimes too, although I think it's hard to put into words exactly what I'm running away from.
i feel you. I think there is a very small, and often undistinguishable difference between running from something and running towards...A lot of people want to play with semantics to make it sound more positive - but in the end, they are running to escape.
ReplyDeleteoh, and the movie looks ridiculous.
Great Pics. I am running away the pounds, the irritability I feel If I don't work out. Beautiful Pics. Love your new Header pic!!
ReplyDeleteWay cool post and awesome pics...
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine has done RAAM twice, once as part of a two man team and once solo. He finished (and the two man team set a record) but I know he wanted to quit many times.
I have a collage of photos of him during his solo ride - talk about inspiration!
I have GOT to see the movie - I don't think he's in it, but I'm fascinated by the folks who do this race.
I wish running was my nirvana, I really do, I envy people like that! So far my nirvana is eating B&J, which, while it is super enjoyable, not always the best decision! So if you could bottle up some of your awesomeness and send it my way, I'd appreciate it!
ReplyDeletehmmm great line for me to consider!
ReplyDelete"Endurance Athletes are running away from something inside of themselves" ....yes! for me its the same thing (addiction) that drives me today...to push on, AND also to run "away" from past demons and my previous life addiction?!! I like what Jon said running toward a more positive me...
Derek
I run away also. Without running away I would be totally crazy, in Florida. Oh, wait...too late.
