bike names

i finally came up with a name for my bike and it only took 8 months. i wanted it to come to me like a flash of lightning and it happened yesterday at the start of our ride. humor me by trying to understand the sequence of events that made me have that aaa-haa i've got it moment. i saw a 2010 black camaro, which is one of the cars at the top of my list come time to purchase a new car. anyway, i pointed it out to my domestique and said to him that i love the way the front looks...it looks like it has aggressive looking eyes and face.

see what i mean? then, somehow my mind immediately thought of a cartoon character that the love of my life (aka: my domestique) says reminds him of me. do you know Mandy from the cartoon network? you know you do! perhaps this picture will help jar your memory:
mandy is a little badass chic! maybe that's why i remind the J-man of her, right? she kicks the grim reapers butt all the time and i'm sure if she rode a bike, she'd be a little killer on it. so i'd like to introduce you to Mandy Q. Roo:

she's had a few nips and tucks here and there, the stem flipped and spacers removed to create a lower aero position. my hamstrings are happy with it too.

does your bike have a name? if so, please share. curious minds want to know.

now for a few miscellaneous things:

~ this is my 100th post! i can't believe it. this blog thing has been so much fun. a big thanks to those who read it and follow along, leave comments, and sometimes leaving very sage wisdom.

~ the next time fat cyclist does the 100 miles to nowhere, someone let me know. i'm so in! and i plan on vlogging (yes, that's a word for a video blog) about it while i'm pedaling.

~ a word of warning. if you are an owner of a giro advantage 2 aero helmet, handle with caution. a friend of mine ripped the sides of his trying to take it off quickly during a triathlon. upon inspecting my own giro aero helmet, i can see how easily this could happen. the sides that cover your ears are VERY flimsy. i'll take an extra few seconds, to first, not rip my ears off this weekend when i pull it off and second, not to rip the sides off.

~ guess how many panic attacks i've had leading up to this weekend's race? none! thank you very much. this was not the case 12 years ago prior to St. Anthony's. i had multiple panic attacks on a daily basis for about 2 weeks leading up to that race. i suppose that's normal when you aren't a natural swimmer, you are scared to death of open water and haven't put much effort into the swimming portion. not the case this time! bring it sucka's!

~ had a real good workout this morning. did a medium-hard effort brick this morning. trying to focus on keeping the distance down a bit while upping the intensity. isn't that what tapering is all about?

much love and peace out!

  1. Isn't that what tapering is about... NOOOOOO haha, its CUTTING the miles girl!!! LOL you rock, way to kill the mileage still.

I have not named my bike yet, I need to have an epiphany hit me on a ride to name her.

You should have absolutely no issues with your race because your base is absurdly great!!! Keep up the good work, the only nerves that will be on race day are from all the people you leave in your dust!

  2. Congrats on 100 posts, no panic attacks and naming your bike!

  3. Okay, I really think we were separated at birth!!! The car I really want is a Chevy Camaro!! I love the way they look. I had one back in the early 90's and I loved that car. Unfortunately, it is not practical to own a camaro in Colorado. Not really a snow car!

The name of my bike is Sadie. Yea, not really a bad ass name but it fits. I got the name from Funny Girl, "sadie, saide married lady." Yea, I am a Streisand fan.

I am so glad to hear that you are not having panic attacks. They can be very bad. I am very excited about your race and can't wait to hear about it!

    Congrats on the 100th post!

  5. I sooooooooo want that car!!!!

    Congrats on the 100th post

And Ohhhhh you know I have names!!!

My roadie, Giant OCRA0 is named Mercy. When I bought her, I named her Caliente at the LBS, then on her maiden voyage, she handed it to me and spit me out, I remember muttering "MERCY" during the ride, after that she lead my home in once piece, it has stuck ever since. She is my work horse, gets 90% of my saddle time.

My Time Trial is named Mistress, while Mercy gets all the grunt work, Mistress gets all the action at the races. My arm candy for racing. I can sense Mercy is jealous of my Mistress, she seems to work me a little harder after a race. You can imagine how hard it is to sneak out of the house with my Mistress with Mercy sitting in the same room.

Thats my M&M girls, though I will admit I love Mercy more.

  6. Scott that comment was awesome and scary all at the same time!!

KC - it is hard for us QR owners to name our bikes. It is fun to have the first letters of the names match, like - Katie Kuota, Shelia Specialized, or Cindy Cervelo. Not many names that begin with "Q". So I like what you did there with the middle initial being the "Q" ... you get major creative points for that one!

    Congrats on the 100th post!

    Good luck this weekend!!

  8. Good luck on your race. I have a QR TiPhoon and I just feel fast on it. Don't have a name yet but I'm sure the right one will hit me at the right time. I'm disappointed to be pulling out of Florida 70.3 this weekend due to PF but that's life I guess. Good luck again.

  9. My TT, an Orbea Ora, is Aerodite (mispelling intentional) because when I first got her I noticed it said "Zeus" on it and my brain instantly thought "No way, this is too pretty. It's a girl." And Aerodite (with that spelling) popped into my head! My road bike is Ruby (It's a Fuji Roubaix Pro). That named popped in my head while riding one day, and so it was.

  11. This post made me smile! First of all, that car is fierce and beautiful all rolled into one. Secondly, Mandy is hilarious and I love it for a bike name, and lastly, congrats on calm nerves! I'm still toying with names for my love - I, too, refer to her as my mistress but I am waiting for the perfect name to come to me.

  12. Congrats on your 100th post! AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name of your bike! :) That car totally looks aggressive BTW. I like it. I don't have a name for my bike. Huh. I better name it! HEY I will let you know about the next 100 miles to nowhere, a few bloggers mentioned they wanted to do it too. It would be so fun to have our own little blog world cranking out the miles together! You are totally going to ROCK this race this weekend, you are so ready! BRING it girl! BIG postivie mojo heading your way from Caratunk, ME heading your way, I can't wait to hear how it goes!

  13. Great name for your bike. The resemblance is amazing to the Camaro.

I drove one with my son in Tallahassee during a school visit. Lot's of blind spots.

Bike name? No, but occasionally I do say "What a freakin ride" after some workouts. "Freakin" as a bike name? Hmmmmmmm

I'd say good luck this weekend but you don't need it. I've seen the way you hammer your rides, so you'll do just fine. Instead I'll say "enjoy and embrace the day"

  14. I love the name and the look of the bike :) That makes me want to come up with a name for my bike! Like you, I will be patient and wait for that ah-ha moment!

  15. As always—great post. I can relate to the panic attacks. I think I may have a couple of small panic attacks this year as I steadily draw nearer to Rev3 Cedar Point in Sandusky. Not a natural swimmer? Who is? We don't have gills sister!

Glad to hear you are pumped up and ready to kick some ass though. Good luck!

  16. 100! Take your shoes off and stay a while.

  17. Hmmmm...never thought about naming a bike. I ride a bright red and silver Look 555, so if I had to name it, I guess it would be Big Red (it's a 58 cm). Congrats on 100posts and kick a** this weekend!

Oh, and I totally wanted to do that 100miles to nowhere ride too, but it was completely sold out by the time I even heard about it! Let me know if you hear anything!

Good luck this weekend! You are going to ROCK! :)

  21. Bike names!! A favorite topic of mine considering I've owned 4 tri bikes in just 2 years (absolutely not by choice, just a crap load of bad luck/bad advice).

    Anyway, I've had:

    Pixie
    Pixie II
    Echo
Hope (b/c I 'HOPE' that this is the last tri bike that I purchase for a very, VERY long time).

  26. A few years ago I got a Mustang GT convertible as a midlife crisis-mobile (I'm too tall for the 'vette). This was before the Camaro was redone.

    Congrats on the blog century!

My bikes don't have cool names. I'm still waiting for a eureka moment.

  35. I've got a black and orange Orbea Onix named Estela.

  36. All my bikes have names. I'm not very creative, though, and their names are all based on what types of bikes they are. My QRoo, for example, is a Caliente, so its name is Cali. My Guru road bike is Genie. My Bike Friday travel bike is Buffy. My really old mtn bike is a Diamondback Topanga called Topi.

Glad to hear you are in good spirits going into your race!

  37. love the idea of naming your bike! brilliant. and dang! you're bike is pretty fierce. it doesn't even need a name! but i like Mandy QRoo...

    hmmm...what should I name mine??
