race video and a few after thoughts
thanks to my lovely husband for running around like a madman to capture some of the fun on this video. the title of the video reads may 5th but should read may 15th. my bad! but i wasn't about to go back and fix it because it is like a 5 hour process. youtube is sloooooow and let's just leave it at that.
overall, i loved this race. i will be back next year to take that 1st place spot...believe it! after a 12 year hiatus from triathlons, i am thrilled with the outcome of saturday's race. i mentioned in an earlier post that i had done st. anthony's in 1997 and 1998 and found one of the times from the one in 1997. unfortunately, i was unable to find a breakdown of the times to compare but the overall time was (are you ready?)...3:14:20. not a bad improvement.
now that i've had a chance to digest bits and pieces of the race, here are a few things i will start working on:
~ do more running in the hotter part of the day. 95% of my running is done before the sun comes up.
~ practice, practice, and practice faster transitioning.
~ keep improving on the swim and work on getting faster/more efficient.
hope everyone had a great weekend too. a big thanks to everyone who sent me good race mojo, gave me a shout out on their blogs and left such awesome comments on mine. it meant a lot to me and i was really feeling the love!
much love and peace out!

Awesome video, just showed the wife and trying to convince her to record my races (she is not buying it with the 2 kids)! I like the video race reports :). Also I am in the same boat as far as running in the heat. I run before the sun comes out and my half IRonman is in July and I am not a fast biker like you so I will be running in the peak heat. I am going to try and get some long runs in on the weekend mid day to see how that goes or just start my long rides a little later so that my brick run starts around 12pm. Congrats again!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jason! The cool part about the video is that it served as a camera too. I was able to freeze frame and pull images off to make pictures. Definitely get out there in the heat. It will feel like crap but it will pay off huge dividends.
ReplyDeleteGreat footage. That is some serious improvement from '97...and it's only natural that your transitions would be slower than you like after that long of a break. Fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteNext step if you haven't figured it out yet.... ride about 80 at SA and then hop off the bike and run around 6. Should be around 11am then and pushing 90.
ReplyDeleteThat should do it. I'd join you, but I do better telling people what to do...
WOOHOO! Way to get out there and crush it girl! So excited for you! That REALLY sucks about the water stations so more power to you! Amazing job!
ReplyDeleteExcellent video. I really want to get out and ride after seeing that.
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have your very own personal videographer.
KC, sounds like you had a great race and I like what you are planning o nworking on, very realistic stuff. Good to hear 1st place is yours next year!
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun video! Great race.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the video! Congratulations on an awesome race.. really looked like you were enjoying being out there. Best of luck in your upcoming training!
ReplyDeleteI loved the video! Way to go J-man. I loved that you were smiling the entire time!

The j-man has some mad video skills! Fancy editing and all. That was very cool and you looked like you had a blast! thanks for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteI just got home about and hour ago and need to go put my RR up ... lots to share!!!
Again, super nice job! Well done! I can't believe the improvement over 12 years ago. You are literally a different athlete.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on running in the heat. There is no way to prep for it on race day other than train in the middle of the day (with lots of water, of course:) )
I love the video! Your hubby did a great job getting fantastic shots of you! You did so good and look so freaking strong:) Congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteLove the video, kudos to your hubby, and to you for an awesome race!
ReplyDeleteYour husband could film for COPS with all that running he did with the camera!
ReplyDeleteyou are a tri rockstar! awesome race, improvement? can't compare the tow races! way to go, you are going to be one awesome IM
ReplyDeleteAwesome video! You are amazing... and blistering fast! Race improvement? We need to find a different phrase... that doesn't even cut the mustard! You are like a different woman! Just goes to show you what time, dedication and a determined mindset can do.
ReplyDeleteSo very inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. :-)
Awesome and inspiring! I'm coming to the party late because I was out of town without a computer, but you did great and in my home town. Oh and your race improvement has me inspired and hopeful for what the years can do in a positive way. Great job!
ReplyDeleteNice video!!
ReplyDeleteThose are good things to be working on, esp. that first one in training for GFT. Last year, my coach had me running no earlier than 9am on weekends as he didn't want me to get spoiled running in low 80 deg temps. He wanted me to prepare for the worst so l'd be ready for anything. Good advice for GFT which is one of the toughest irons around even though it's not an Ironman brand race.
Best of luck with the rest of your iron training!
I run in the heat (relatively speaking, of course) during the summer. It makes a big difference on race days.
ReplyDeleteOne word: awesome. Like Bob, it is much easier to tell people what to do than actually do it yourself, but I agree with him this time around. Okay, I agree with him more often than that, but I just do not let on to it.
ReplyDeleteYeah... swimming is hard. Why can't it be... eat Oreos, bike run, or watch episodes of Battlestar Galactica, bike, run?
Nice video! And, woohoo for such an amazing improvement! You are awesome!
